Wish And It May Be So

In 1855, little realising that he would become one of the 19th century’s most useful chroniclers, Augustus Hare wrote:

“Oh, how I wish I could become an author! I begin now so to thirst after distinction of some kind, and of that kind above all others; but I know my mind must receive quite a new tone first, and that my scattered fragments of sense would have to be called into an unanimous action to which they are quite unaccustomed.”

It may take a while, dear tyro author, but you never know: your dreams may be answered.
